This is a great book for parents of EI students. It explains how and why your child is using the various math materials. The Appendix in the back giving you one line about each of the math materials is a treasure trove for parents who did not go through Montessori education themselves.

This book is essential if you plan to follow a Montessori math program. This book provides information about the materials and how to use them. I use this book with my own children because I feel that it has everything I need to teach them math in a Montessori style.

Beautiful colored illustrations. Fantastic ideas with step by steps instructions. I wish that every single Montessori activity could be printed out just like this book! I am SO happy that I found it!

Very useful for parents, teachers and administrators! It approaches a comprehensible view and goals of Montessori pedagogy toward abstraction. It illustrates the basic difference between uses of materials or manipulatives for development of thinking vs their uses as devices in academics.

This book does a great job explaining the Montessori math manipulatives to parents. The language is simple and great for those not closely familiar with Montessori materials. It also ties the information in with current scientific research.

This book gives specific information about Montessori Math using plenty of photos and would be useful for montessori educators, parents, and administrators.

Overall, the book is interesting but does not really help parents. It explains how most children learn math and how the Montessori approach and materials help. If you have a child in a Montessori preschool, it will help you understand what they hope to teach her, roughly HOW they hope to do it, and will help you understand some of what your child might talk about when recounting her day at school.
BUT, for a mom wanting to use these materials at home, the book comes up very short. The author actually warns parents to NOT try to teach their child any math concepts at home since you won't have the materials or won't have all of them. A few of the materials are then described and their basic use is explained. But many, many of the math materials available in most Montessori schools are not mentioned at all or are given a brief sentence or two. Not at all what I hoped for.

If you want to use the Montessori method to help teach your preschooler math concepts, then do some simple internet searches. You will find hundreds of websites explaining most of the materials and many suggestions on how to make them yourself.
